Flyers Fall In Season Finale

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Alex Vigansky tallied a team-high 11 kills and Drew Pickering added 10 for the Lewis Flyers in a 3-0 loss to No. 15 Ohio State (30-24, 30-25, 30-19), Friday night in the Flyers' season finale.

Vigansky also added two block assists, while Pickering notched two digs and one block assist. Mykolai Zerebeckyj, David Kelnhofer and Craig Boller each supplied four kills, and Nick Perakes had eight digs. David Taylor totaled 35 assists.

Mark Greaves led the Buckeyes with a match-high 12 kills, hitting .500 for the match. Teammates Stuart Katz and Andy Cole each hit nine kills. Katz hit a match-best .583 and also made eight digs.

A Flyers' service error followed by a block by Greaves and Layne Devin broke a 9-9 tie in the first game, and the Buckeyes never trailed the remainder of the game.

Katz busted an 8-8 tie with a kill to put Buckeyes ahead for good in game two. Lewis managed to close to within three points at 19-16, but the Buckeyes used two kills, a block and an ace serve during a 4-1 spurt to take command of the game.

Ohio State rattled off three consecutive kills early in game three and never looked back en route to the match win.

The Flyers (10-18, 3-8 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) end their season in fifth place in the conference's Shondell/Dunlap Division.
