ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lisa Gartland (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba)'s two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning followed by Mallory Paine (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North)'s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Lewis Flyers (29-9, 13-5) a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Wisconsin-Parkside (19-24, 8-12) in game one of a conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

Gartland (5-0) went on to pitch a three-hit shutout in game two, helping the Flyers to a 6-0 win.

Shannon Roney hit a pair of solo home runs in the second game, and she ignited the Flyers' comeback in the first game with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Wisconsin-Parkside pitcher Kristen Bresten (7-7) held the Flyers to one hit through the first five innings of game one, but was tagged for two hits and three runs in the sixth.

Bresten walked Kelly Dianis to start the sixth inning and then tossed a wild pitch to the next batter, allowing Carissa Castonzo, who was pinch-running for Dianis, to reach second. Roney then hit a single to left center to bring home Castonzo and get Lewis on the board at 3-1. Gartland came up next and sent high fly ball over the fence in left field to tie the game.

Christina Willis led off the seventh with an infield single, and then Robin Martz advanced Beth Shelus, who was pinch-running for Willis, to second with a sacrifice bunt. Paine then came up and dumped a shallow pop fly between the Rangers second baseman and right fielder. Shelus rounded third on the play and advanced home ahead of the throw from right field.

Julie Wingerter (11-3) picked up the complete-game win in the opener, allowing four hits, one earned run and no walks. She fanned two batters.

Roney's lead-off homer in the second inning of game two was the Flyers would need, but they added three more in the third and one more in each the fourth and fifth innings.

Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central)' two-RBI single was the highlight of Lewis' three-run third inning. Paine started the scoring in the inning with an RBI infield single.

Another infield single by Paine plated the Flyers fifth run, and Roney led-off the fifth inning with her second home run of the game for the sixth run.

Paine finished the afternoon 4-for-6 with three RBI and one run. She also stole three bases. Roney was 3-for-7 with three RBI and three runs, and Willis had a 3-for-4 day with two runs. Robin Martz was 3-for-7 with a double and a stolen base.

The Flyers return to the Lewis Softball Field on Saturday for a conference doubleheader with Bellarmine beginning at Noon.
