KENOSHA, Wis. - After Lewis suffered an 8-0 loss (5 innings) to the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers in the opener of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, Julie Wingerter gave the Flyers just what they needed in the second game by striking out a season-high nine batters en route to a 3-0 complete-game victory.

Wingerter (7-1), who allowed just three hits, looked most impressive in the bottom of the fourth inning when she worked her way out of a bases loaded jam.

After the Rangers' first two batters reached on a bunt-single and a double, Wingerter intentionally walked the clean-up hitter to load the bases with nobody out. Wingerter then secured a pop-foul out, a strikeout and another pop-foul out from the next three hitters to end the threat.

Along with her dominating pitching performance, Wingerter also sparked a Flyers' offensive rally in the top half of the sixth inning.

With two out and nobody on, Wingerter surprised the Ranger defense by dragging a bunt-single down the first base line.

That brought up Robin Martz, who singled to center field, and then Mallory Paine brought both Wingerter and Martz home by smoking a double to the fence in left-center field.

The Flyers added one more run in the top of the seventh thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Beth Shelus to score from third, and Wingerter sealed it in the bottom half with two more strikeouts and a liner to shortstop.

Meagan Shimkus (4-6), who fanned 11 and allowed just one hit through the first five innings, took the loss for Wisconsin-Parkside.

In the first game, Kristen Bresten proved to be a one-woman wrecking crew for the Rangers. Bresten (6-3) scattered three hits and struck-out eight in going the distance from the circle. She also hit two home runs, including the game-winning shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Courtney Lyons (6-4) suffered the loss for the Flyers. Paine hit a double for Lewis, and Kristy Vanek had two singles.

The Flyers play again on Saturday when they host Rockhurst for a doubleheader at Noon.
