JOLIET - Southern Illinois Edwardsville pitchers out-dueled their Lewis counterparts Saturday, allowing the visiting Cougars to sweep a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader, 1-0 and 3-0, from the Flyers at Silver Cross Field.

In the seven-inning opener, Lewis' Ryan Duran (0-4) allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out six. But SIUE's Kyle Jones (7-0), who hasn't allowed a run all season, fanned 13 and yielded just a single to Darryl Jenkins and three walks. It was Jones' fifth 1-0 victory of the season.

Game two saw SIUE's Clay Zavada (3-2) strike out 15 and allow just two hits and a walk in eight innings. Adam Schneider pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

Tim Harmatys (2-3) tossed eight strong innings for the Flyers (3-29, 2-22 GLVC), striking out six and giving one unearned run, five hits and one walk. SIUE (21-11-1, 16-10-1 GLVC) plated two more unearned runs in the ninth.

Brandon Niewinski was 2-for-4 in the nightcap, and Jenkins added a hit.

The teams are back at Silver Cross Field for another twin-bill on Sunday. Game time is noon.
