Stabosz Gives Flyers A Strong Outing

JOLIET - Adam Stabosz allowed just two runs and six hits Sunday in the Lewis University baseball team's 2-0 loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville in game one of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

In the nightcap, SIUE exploded for eight runs and 11 hits to earn an 8-1 victory.

Stabosz (0-4) pitched the first six innings of the seven-inning opener and struck out four. Matt Rolle tossed a scoreless seventh to keep the Flyers within striking distance.

Cameron Cheek (3-1) went the distance and allowed just two hits, singles by Victor Naut and Tim Bingham, while fanning four. SIUE (23-11-1, 18-10-1 GLVC) scored a run in the sixth and seventh.

In game two, the Flyers (3-31, 2-24 GLVC) plated a run in the second. Naut led off with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pickoff attempt, went to third on a ground ball and scored on a throwing error.

Darryl Jenkins and Phil Marchinski each collected a hit off reliever Patrick Keller (2-0), who walked two and struck out four over the final five innings. Starter Adam Tallman struck out four and did not allow a hit but walked four in his four innings of work.

Jon Guzzo (1-5) was saddled with the loss. Tommy Rawski logged the final 2 2/3 innings and yielded just one hit.

The Flyers travel to Saint Joseph's for a GLVC doubleheader on Tuesday.
