MIDLAND, Mich. - The Northwood Timberwolves (1-0) topped the Lewis Flyers (0-1) 1-0 in the season opener for both teams, Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

After a scoreless first half, Northwood's Ashley Ptasnik chipped in a five-yard shot from left side to net the game's only goal at 12 minutes and 40 seconds into the second half. Elizabeth Fockler earned the assist.

The Flyers managed eight shots on goal, including three by freshmen Erin Beddows, but Northwood goalkeeper Emily Pierce stopped everything that came her way.

Flyers' goalkeeper Lindsay Frederick collected five saves.

The Flyers return to action on Friday when they play Saginaw Valley State at 3:30 p.m.
