MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lewis University men's soccer team reached a program milestone in dramatic fashion Thursday, as a goal in the 87th minute gave the Flyers a 2-1 non-conference win over Northwood in the season opener for both teams.

Cory Mastey took a long feed from Kipp Cartwright and banged home the game-winner with just 3:48 to play, giving the Flyer program its 400th victory. This is the 40th season of men's soccer at Lewis.

An early second-half goal by Chris Buczkowski tied the game. Buczkowski took a cross from Anthony Marsico and chipped the ball past Northwood goalkeeper Mike Hustader at the 52:09 mark to make it 1-1.

The host Timberwolves took a 1-0 lead at 31:28 when Ronnie Napier found the net with an assist from Tyler DeLaLuz.

Lewis goalkeeper Anthony Szymel was sharp, stopping five of Northwood's six shots on goal, while Hustader made three saves.

After being outshot 10-2 in the first half, the Flyers turned the tables and registered a 10-2 advantage of their own following intermission.

Lewis takes on non-conference opponent Saginaw Valley State on Saturday before hosting Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Southern Indiana next Friday in the home opener.
