ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Theresa Nugent led all players with 15 kills and Charisse Steckling hit .500 with 14 kills, but it wasn't enough for the Lewis Flyers in a 3-2 loss (28-30, 30-27, 25-30, 30-26, 8-15) to Michigan Tech in the opening match of the Flyer Festival Thursday evening at Neil Carey Arena.

After falling behind in the match 2-1 and trailing 26-24 in game four, Sarah McKinney ignited a Flyers' rally with a kill and two service aces to force a fifth game. But the momentum shifted quickly in the deciding game as Michigan Tech jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back to claim the win.

Veronica Armstrong led the Huskies with 14 kills and was joined in double digits by Jen Jung (11) and Amanda Neuhalfen (10). Kaari Nevanen added a match-best 19 digs along with four service aces.

For the Flyers, Sara deBuhr hit .364 with 11 kills while Lauren Hatter and Andrea Morrone each totaled a team-best 17 digs. Hatter also added four service aces and Morrone had 50 assists. McKinney finished the night with 15 digs, nine kills and three aces.

Michigan Tech held the advantage in blocks (10-6) while Lewis finished with a slight edge in hitting (.217 to .205). The Huskies hit 16 service aces compared to nine by the Flyers.
