ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
Erin Cox led No. 15 Lewis with 16 points, in what was her team's worst shooting performance of the season, as the Flyers managed a 56-45 win over the Missouri-St. Louis Riverwomen, Thursday evening in conference action.
The Flyers (14-4), winners of eight straight games, are off the best start in program history, topping the 1997-98 team which won 13 games before losing for a third time.
Cox's 16 points mark her highest total since a career-high 22-point effort at Bellarmine on Jan. 22, 2005. She shot 6-for-9 from the floor, draining two 3-pointers in the process, and she had three rebounds and a steal.
Darcee Schmidt posted her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Mary Moskal also scored 13 points, and she grabbed nine rebounds and matched a career best with six steals.
Jenna Mooberry added six points and Lauresha Hawkins scored five. Brittney Diener added five rebounds and three assists.
The Flyers point total and field goal percentage were both season lows, but Lewis posted season highs of 26 turnovers and 16 steals while committing only 11 turnovers of their own to win the low-scoring affair.
The Flyers trailed by as many as seven with 7:38 to play in the first half before closing the period with an 18-4 run. Lewis led the entire the second half.
The Riverwomen were led in scoring by Jennifer Dewell with 11 points. Missouri-St. Louis also shot just 28.6 percent from the floor.
The Flyers look for their ninth consecutive win on Saturday at Missouri-Rolla.
