Lewis Offense Returns In 91-77 Win Over Rolla

ROLLA, Mo. - After being held to a season-low 56 points on Thursday night, the Flyers bounced back with their best offensive showing of the season, beating Missouri-Rolla 91-77 Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Flyers (15-2, 8-1) have won nine straight games for the first time since the 2004-05 season and are off to the best start in program history.

Darcee Schmidt and Mary Moskal supplied 50 of Lewis' 91 points. Schmidt scored 30, reaching the 30-point mark for a fifth time this season, while Moskal netted 20. Schmidt also collected five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Moskal had a game-high seven rebounds and came up with two steals.

Together, Schmidt and Moskal combined 26 of the team's 30 free throw attempts. Schmidt matched a career-best by going 11-for-11 from the line, and Moskal hit 11-of-14.

Kelly Dianis and Jenna Mooberry also scored in double figures for Lewis. Dianis totaled 16 points, draining 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and Mooberry had 11 points with five rebounds. Brittney Diener added a game-high six assists.

Lewis led by as many as 14 points in the early minutes of the second half, but the advantage wasn't enough to put the Lady Miners away.

Missouri-Rolla used patient and steady attack to erase Lewis' double-digit lead, outscoring the Flyers 29-14 over an eight-minute span. A Chism McEntire 3-pointer with 7:21 to play in the game put Missouri-Rolla up by one point.

The teams traded the lead three more times over the next few minutes before Lewis was able to pull away. Mooberry put Lewis in front for good with a layup at 3:45, as Missouri-Rolla missed its final eight shots from the field down the stretch.

Nicole Dierking scored a team-high 18 points for Missouri-Rolla and was one of three Lady Miners to score in double digits.

Lewis shot 51.8 percent from the field, compared to 43.5 by Missouri-Rolla. The Flyers held a 34-33 edge in rebounds and committed three fewer turnovers than the Lady Miners (13-10).

Lewis returns home to face Southern Indiana on Thursday, Jan. 25.
