No. 9 Flyers Make History With 11th Consecutive Win

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Behind a combined 49 points from seniors Mary Moskal and Darcee Schmidt, the No. 9 Lewis Flyers (17-2, 10-1) set a program record with their 11th consecutive win by narrowly holding off Kentucky Wesleyan 80-76, Saturday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena.

Lewis, which led by as many as 21 points in the second half, saw its lead evaporate to just two by the final minute before escaping with a four-point win.

Already up by six, the Flyers outscored Kentucky Wesleyan 32-15 over the first 11:17 of the second half. Schmidt scored 15 for the Flyers during the span, and with 8:43 to play in the game, the Flyers held their biggest lead of the afternoon, 67-46.

Kentucky Wesleyan took control from there, out-pacing the Flyers 30-11 over the next 8:03, and with 40 seconds to play, Lewis led by just two points.

A steal on the Flyers' next possession gave the Panthers a chance to tie or take the lead, but LaTasha Henry gave the ball back to Lewis with an errant pass in the lane.

Moskal came up with the ball for Lewis and was fouled immediately with 15 seconds left on the clock. She made both free throws to preserve the win for the Flyers.

Moskal finished with a game-high 26 points and added six rebounds, three assists and one steal. Schmidt tallied 23 points, 20 of which came in the second half. She also posted a game high with nine rebounds and had an assist.

Erin Cox added nine points and eight rebounds, and Jenna Mooberry had eight points and five rebounds. Brittney Diener pulled down six boards and registered five assists, closing to within eight assists of the Lewis career record.

Laura McClintic led the Panthers with 19 points. Ashley Pait added 10 points, and Whitney Waddell collected nine rebounds.

The Flyers shot 40.8 percent from the field, holding the Panthers to 36.5 percent. Lewis committed four fewer turnovers than Kentucky Wesleyan (14-10). The Panthers held a 49-41 advantage on the glass.

Lewis travels to play Indianapolis on Thursday.
