Darcee Schmidt and Mary Moskal combined for 55 points to lead the Lewis Flyers to a 75-64 win over No. 18 Northern Kentucky, Saturday afternoon in conference action at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers (12-2, 5-1) extended their win streak to six games and beat a ranked opponent for a third straight game. The Norse dropped to 7-5 (1-4).
Schmidt scored a game-high 32 points, marking her third consecutive game of 30 or more points. She shot 13-of-22 from the field with four 3-pointers and two free throws. She also had eight rebounds.
Moskal scored 23, one shy of her season high, on 6-off-11 shooting from the field and 11-of-15 at the line. Moskal also had eight boards, five assists, one block and a steal.
Lewis led by 10 at the half and was up by as many as 14 in the early minutes of the second half, as Schmidt scored Lewis' first 12 second-half points in a span of 3:43, but it wasn't enough to put the Norse away.
With 8:53 to play, Lewis' lead was down to two points. Northern Kentucky had a chance to tie or take the lead on their next two possessions, but turned the ball over both times, once on a Schmidt steal.
Schmidt put Lewis up by four when she made a pair of free throws at 6:21, and a 3-pointer by Jennifer Green following a 3-point miss by the Norse gave the Flyers a seven-point cushion.
The Flyers led by no less than six the rest of the way, bumping their lead to double-digits at the foul line in the final two minutes.
The Flyers trailed 7-2 in the opening minutes of the game before going on a 19-7 run to take a 21-14 lead at the 12:34 mark of the first half. The Norse responded with an 11-4 spurt to tie the game at 25 with 5:50 to play in the first. The Norse took a one-point lead following a Katie Butler 3-pointer at 4:02, but Lewis answered with a 16-5 run to close out the half with a 43-33 lead.
Other leading scorers for the Flyers included Erin Cox with eight points and Jenna Mooberry with seven. Cox also collected five rebounds, three assists and a block, while Mooberry added two assists and a steal. Brittney Diener tallied six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.
Northern Kentucky had four players reach double figures in scoring. Karyn Creager and Angela Healy led the Norse with 13 points apiece, while Karmen Graham added 12 and Katie Butler had 11. Healy also registered a game-high nine rebounds.
The Flyers shot 50 percent for the game compared to 37 percent by the Norse. Rebounds and turnovers were even at 33 and 15, respectively.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday, playing at Wisconsin-Parkside at 1 pm.
