In an impressive all-around team effort, the Lewis Flyers swept the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons 30-28, 30-24, 30-20 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena.
Sophomore Kim Richards had a team-high 15 kills. She also added six digs and four assisted blocks.
Sophomore Stephanie Sagat and freshman Lauren Seliga both recorded kill-dig double-doubles. Sagat had 14 kills and 10 digs. Seliga registered 12 kills and notched 15 digs.
Freshman Ashlee Lindish recorded a match-high 26 digs. Junior Lauren Hatter added 18 digs.
In a match that featured multiple long rallies, Lewis recorded a season-high in digs for a three-game match with 92.
Senior Andrea Morrone was two kills away from a triple-double with 45 assists, 13 digs and 8 kills.
Seeing action in just two games, sophomore Sara deBuhr provided solid play off the bench. She recorded seven kills and two assisted blocks.
The Flyers took control of game one with a 6-0 run after they fell behind 5-8.
In game two Seliga and Richards both recorded five kills as they cruised to the six-point victory.
Game three was all Lewis, out-hitting the Tritons .314 to .068.
Lewis out-hit UMSL for the match .269 to .162. The Flyers also out-blocked the Tritons 7-4.
For UMSL, Christy Trame had 15 kills. Heather Nichols had 22 digs and Joslyn Brown had 21.
UMSL entered the match in third place in the GLVC West Division. The Tritons had won three of their last four, including a sweep of Northern Kentucky.
Lewis improves to 18-3 (10-2 GLVC) while UMSL falls to 11-13 (7-6 GLVC).
Lewis hosts Missouri-Rolla tomorrow at 3 p.m.
