ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Behind freshman Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon)'s first career shutout the Lewis Flyers defeated the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers 1-0 Friday afternoon in the Great Lakes Valley Conference season finale for both squads.
In just her third career start, George recorded 14 saves, including eight in the second half. George's 14 saves was a season-high and the most for a Flyers goalkeeper since Lindsay Frederick had 18 against Southern Indiana on Sept. 1, 2006.
George came up with several clutch saves, including turning away a flurry of Rangers shots deep in the box at 70:00.
The loan score of the game came at 19:29 on an own goal. Lewis freshman Jessica Summers-Hernandez beat a defender and delivered a long cross from the far right side into the box. A Rangers defender attempted to clear the pass but instead deflected the cross into the net. With George in goal, it would be the only score the Flyers would need.
Sophomore Jessica McNamara recorded a game-high five shots and a team-high three shots on goal. Summers-Hernandez recorded two shots on goal.
The Rangers held a 14-6 edge in shots on goal and 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Wisconsin-Parkside's Kahili Cheng had a game-high four shots on goal.
Lewis finishes the 2007 season with a 4-8-1 GLVC record, besting their 2-10 performance last season.
Lewis improved their overall record to 6-10-1.
Wisconsin-Parkside entered the match on a three game win streak and winners of five of their last six. With the loss they fell to 10-5-1 (7-5-1).
The Flyers conclude the 2007 season with a non-conference game at Mckendree on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
