Flyers Shock No. 6 Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Four Flyers reached double figures to help Lewis upset No. 6 Drury 73-58 Thursday evening in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.

The Flyers shot a blistering 53 percent from the floor while limiting the Lady Panthers to just 32 percent shooting.

Juniors Kelly Dianis and Lauren Martens each recorded 14 points. Dianis connected on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and added three assists and a game high three steals. Martens was a rebound away from a double-double, grabbing a game high nine boards.

Sophomore Kaci Baird scored 12 points, going 2-for-2 on 3-pointers. Baird also added five assists and one steal.

Senior Jennifer Green recorded career-highs with 12 points and six assists in 20 minutes of action. She led a Flyers bench that outscored the Drury bench 29-0. Freshman Kelly Monaco recorded eight points. Freshman Jenny Turpel scored three points and a game high four blocks.

After falling behind 14-8 to start the game, back-to-back Dianis 3-pointers tied the game up. The Flyers closed the first half on a 15-7 run to take a 35-27 halftime advantage. Lewis started the second half on a 10-0 run and never looked back.

The Flyers connected on 9-of-15 3-pointers to shoot 60 percent on the night. The Lewis perimeter defense was just as strong, holding Drury to 30 percent on 6-of-20 shooting from outside.

Drury's Molly Carter finished with a game high 20 points. The Lady Panthers made 18-of-23 free throws while the Flyers made six of their eight attempts from the line.

Lewis improves to 2-2 (1-0 GLVC) while Drury falls to 3-1 (0-1 GLVC).

The Flyers play at Rockhurst on Saturday.
