With under two-minutes to play the Flyers were within five points of Division I Western Illinois, but a jumper by WIU's Amanda Walker as the shot clock expired with 1:19 remaining helped the Westerwinds edge the Flyers 56-43 in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon.
Junior Jenna Mooberry was a rebound away from a double-double, recording a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds for the Flyers.
Sophomore Kaci Baird also scored in double digits with ten points and a team-high three steals.
As the Flyers' only exhibition game of the season, Lewis used multiple lineups as 13 Flyers saw action.
Junior Lauren Martens and Mooberry both went 2-3 from the field in the first half.
After the Westerwinds extended their 11-point halftime advantage to a 16-point lead in the second half, the Flyers went on an 8-0 run, capped with a jumper by freshman Devon Carbaugh to cut the lead in half with 9:18 remaining.
As the game went on the Flyers found more success inside the paint, shooting 13 free throws in the second half compared to two in the first. Lewis finished with a 20-18 edge in point in the paint for the game.
The Flyers limited Western Illinois to 40 percent shooting from the floor.
The Westerwinds' Gina Hugelier had a game-high 15 points.
The Flyers will open the regular season in Kenosha, Wis. against Lake Superior State on Friday, Nov. 16 and Michigan Tech the next day.
