Entering play Tuesday night, senior Darcee Schmidt had made 137 3-pointers during her career, but none was as meaningful or memorable as No. 138.
Spotting up from the top of the circle with 18:05 to play in the first half, Schmidt banked in career points 1,853, 1,854 and 1,855, setting a Lewis record for career scoring. She went on to total 17 for the game, leading the No. 9 Flyers to an 83-58 rout of Wisconsin-Parkside, Tuesday night at Neil Carey Arena.
Schmidt, who shot 7-of-14 with two 3-pointers, surpassed Krista Eshoo (1987-91) for the top spot on Lewis' career scoring list.
The Flyers (23-3, 16-2) equaled a school record for wins set by the 1997-98 team (23-5) and won 16 conference games for the first time in program history. Lewis also finished undefeated at home (11-0) for the first time since the 1997-98 team went 15-0 at home during the regular season and locked up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament.
Other leading scorers for Lewis against Wisconsin-Parkside were Jenna Mooberry with a career-high 17 points and Mary Moskal with 14 points. Moskal also led all players with eight rebounds and seven assists. Jennifer Green contributed a career-high 11 points off the bench, draining 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Brittney Diener added seven boards and four assists, and Kelly Dianis scored nine points.
Lewis scored the first six points of the game and went on to take a 17-5 lead by 12:21 of the first half. The Rangers cut Lewis' advantage to eight points with 8:55 to play in the half, but the Flyers answered with a 15-5 run to push their lead to 20 points. Lewis led by 22 at the half and was up by as many as 31 points before Lewis starters left for the bench midway through the second half. Lewis' reserves didn't allow the Rangers to get any closer than 21 points the rest of the way.
The Flyers shot 51.7 percent for the game, setting a season high with 15 3-pointers. Wisconsin-Parkside shot 40.8 percent from the floor, hitting seven baskets from 3-point range. The Flyers held a 32-23 advantage on the glass and produced five blocks and five steals.
Kayla Ming paced the Rangers offense with 13 points.
Lewis concludes regular-season play at Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday.
