Feb. 22, 2007

Box Score

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Just one game after blowing by Lewis' career scoring record, senior Darcee Schmidt broke the program's single-season scoring mark with a 30-point effort in the Flyers' school-record 24th win of the season, a 92-80 drubbing of Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday night in the Flyers' regular-season finale.

No. 9 Lewis (24-3, 17-2) became the first team in program history to win 24 games in a season, topping the 1997-98 team, which went 23-5. The Flyer's 17-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference record also is a program best.

Schmidt led all scorers Thursday night, reaching the 30-point mark for a seventh time this season. Her 30 points gave her 608 for the season, four more than the previous record held by Mary Niego for the past 26 years.

Schmidt tallied 21 points in the first half against Kentucky Wesleyan, helping the Flyers to a seven-point halftime lead.

The Panthers closed to within three points of Lewis at 16:48 of the second half, but the Flyers responded with 10 unanswered points, receiving the first six from Mary Moskal, who scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half.

By the 6:19 mark the Flyers led by 20, thanks in part to the long-range shooting of Jenna Mooberry, who fired three treys and totaled 17 points in the second half. She finished the game with 21, four more than her career high set on Tuesday night.

Brittney Diener added 10 assists with five points, one block and one steal. Kaci Baird had six points, Erin Cox scored five and Lauren Martens registered four.

The Panthers put four players in double figures in scoring. LaToshia Lawrence and Lauren Stewart led that group with 16 apiece.

The Flyers forced 19 turnovers and committed just seven of their own, one more than their season low. Lewis also matched a season best with its 92 points, equaling their output in a win over Southern Indiana on Jan. 25.

The Flyers are idle until the GLVC Championship Tournament at Evansville, Ind. on March 2-4.
