Highland Heights, Ky. - The No. 7 Lewis University women's basketball team's two-month run without a loss came to a close in a hard-fought battle with long-time nemesis Northern Kentucky University.

Darcee Schmidt and Mary Moskal combined for 35 points, but it wasn't enough for the Flyers in a 73-61 road loss Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Flyers (19-3, 12-2) lost for the first time since Dec. 7 at Quincy, ending a school-record 13-game win streak. Northern Kentucky improved to 16-5 (10-4).

A Lauresha Hawkins jumper at 11:53 of the second half brought the Flyers to within four points of the lead, but Lewis wouldn't get any closer. Northern Kentucky shot 50 percent from the field during the second half, outscoring the Flyers 38-26.

Schmidt scored 20 points, going 8-for-19 from the field. She hit two 3-pointers, pulled down nine rebounds and had three blocks. Moskal tallied 15, including 7-for-9 at the foul line. She also came up with three steals.

The Norse shot 43.1 percent compared to 39.3 by Lewis. Northern Kentucky held a 38-33 advantage on the glass and hit 17-of-20 from the free throw line. Lewis was 10-of-13 at the stripe.
