MUNCIE, Ind. - Playing without one of its key contributors, the Lewis University men's volleyball team battled 13th-ranked Ball State tough but fell 30-26, 30-27, 30-26 Saturday in the first round of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Championship tournament.

Even with sophomore middle blocker and second-team All-MIVA selection Billy Sahagian sidelined by illness, the fifth-seeded Flyers (17-14) gave the fourth-seeded Cardinals (18-11) all they could handle.

Nathan Klaas and Jared Dayton led the Lewis offense with 12 kills apiece, while Craig Boller collected nine kills and posted a team-high .381 hitting percentage. Setter Jordan Vidovic tallied 37 assists.

Defensively, Dayton and Vidovic notched 11 digs apiece, while Nick Perakes and Klaas registered eight and seven digs, respectively. Boller (seven blocks), Klaas (five) and Drew Pickering (four) led Lewis at the net. The Flyers earned advantages of 43-39 in digs and 10-9 in blocks.
