Flyers Reach Season High In Hits

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Bryan Druktenis and Billy Duffy each collected four hits Saturday in the Lewis University baseball team's Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader loss at Drury.

Drury captured the seven-inning opener 5-2 and won the nine-inning nightcap 14-4.

In game one, Lewis (5-36, 4-25 GLVC) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Joe Carbone led off with an infield single and moved to third on Chris Brigham (Bolingbrook, Ill./Romeoville)'s sacrifice and Druktenis' single. Carbone scored and Druktenis scooted to third on Duffy's single, and Mike Smith (Lemont, Ill./Lemont)'s single plated Druktenis.

Drury (22-18, 17-10 GLVC) scored the tying run in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth. Only three of the Panthers' five tallies were earned.

Smith was 2-for-3 and Ryan Duran had a double for the Flyers.

In game two, Drury scored one run in the first, two in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth. The Flyers collected a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth, but the Panthers responded with one in the sixth and three in the eighth to account for the final score.

Duran doubled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on Joe Musolino (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence)'s two-out single. In the fifth, a triple by Duffy scored Brigham (walk) and Druktenis (single), and Smith's groundout brought home Duffy.

Duffy and Druktenis had three hits apiece in the nightcap, with Duffy adding a double to his two-run triple. Duran had two doubles for Lewis, which rapped out a season-high 12 hits.

The Flyers and Panthers conclude the series Sunday with a nine-inning single game that starts at noon.
