Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Kipp Cartwright busted a 1-1 stalemate at 108:14 of the second overtime to lift the Lewis Flyers to an exciting come-from-behind win over Missouri St. Louis, Friday afternoon in conference action at the Lewis Soccer Field.

Cartwright's tally, his second of the season, capped a frenzied attack by the Flyers' offense in the second overtime.

The Flyers had five corner kicks in the final three minutes of the game, but couldn't break through on the first four attempts. On the fifth try, senior Anthony Marsico sent the ball in to junior Cory Mastey, who connected with a shot on goal. Triton goalkeeper Mike Bober blocked the ball out in front of the net but could not contain the rebound, and Cartwright knocked it in for the game-winner.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Flyers, who are now 5-2 (1-2 GLVC). Missouri-St. Louis fell to 3-2 (0-2 GLVC).

After a scoreless first half of play, the visiting Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the second when Colin Huber knocked a shot into the lower left corner at 50:44.

Lewis answered just minutes later when sophomore Nestor Hernandez notched his third goal of the season on a free kick from 40 yards out. The ball arced up and came down just under the crossbar near the top left corner of the net at 54:20.

Lewis dominated the overtime periods, coming up with six shots to the Tritons' one.

Junior goalkeeper Anthony Szymel picked up his fifth win of the season. He made two saves. Bober also had two saves.

The Flyers out-shot Missouri-St. Louis 18-7 and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks. Lewis committed 14 fouls, compared to 12 by the Tritons, but Missouri-St. Louis picked up three yellow cards. Lewis had two.

The Flyers look to continue their winning ways on Sunday when they host Missouri-Rolla at 2:30 p.m.
