ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Three goals by junior Courtney Kettel lifted the Lewis Flyers to a 4-0 victory over the Saint Joseph's Pumas in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game Friday afternoon.

The Pumas entered the game undefeated in conference play but the Flyers controlled from start to finish.

Kettel's first tally came unassisted at 17:49 on a breakaway down the middle of the field. She lofted it over the head of Pumas keeper Sarah Croskrey after she came out to challenge Kettel.

At 34:44 freshman Jessica Summers-Hernandez found Kettel open at the top of the box and Kettel again found the top of the net for her second score of the game.

Kettel registered the hat trick at 53:55 off a deflected shot by junior Caitlin Kelly. From the left side Kettel blasted the deflection into the upper right corner.

A header by sophomore Amy Foran off of a corner by Summers-Hernandez at 73:45 gave the Flyers their final score of the game.

The tally was Foran's fourth goal of the season. She is second on the team in goals behind Kettel's eight.

Kettel's three goals marked her first career hat trick and third multiple goal game of her career. She scored twice against Upper Iowa on Aug. 29 this season and at Upper Iowa on Oct. 18 last season.

Summers-Hernandez's two assists were the first two of her career. Her five shots were also a career high for a game.

Freshman goalkeeper Andrea Iossi played flawlessly, recording five saves.

The Flyers defense played solid all afternoon with the Pumas' best scoring opportunity coming on a penalty kick by Aniela Pulice at 69:09. Pulice's shot deflected off the crossbar.

Lewis' four goals marked their most in a conference game since a 4-0 win at Bellarmine in 2000.

Lewis out-shot Saint Joseph's 24-12 and led in shots on goal 12-5.

Saint Joseph's led in fouls 9-5 and Trisha Mazzotta recorded the game's only yellow card at 51:54.

The Flyers improved to 4-7-0 (2-5-0 GLVC) while the Pumas dropped to 5-4-2 (3-1-2 GLVC).

The Flyers will look to make it two in a row on Sunday as they host the Indianapolis Greyhounds at noon.
