Flyers Lose Heartbreaker To Greyhounds

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Junior Bethanee Taylor (Silvis, Ill./United Township)'s two goals were not enough as the Indianapolis Greyhounds slipped by the Lewis Flyers 5-4 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game.

Taylor registered the game's first goal at 15:07 (unassisted) after Indianapolis goalkeeper Andrea Swihart couldn't control a loose ball in the box. Taylor chased it down and scored from the right side into the open net.

The Greyhounds knotted it up about seven minutes later with a tally by Jamie Huebner from the right side at 22:26, assisted by Amanda Reese.

Junior Courtney Kettel scored at 39:37 (unassisted) when she rocketed a shot from 15 yards out into the top of the goal. The score gave the Flyers a 2-1 halftime advantage. It was Kettel's fourth goal of the weekend.

The Flyers added to their lead in the second half with a goal by freshman Jessica Summers-Hernandez at 49:37. Kettel found her teammate open in space and Summers-Hernandez shot it in from 18 yards out. It was Summers-Hernandez's second goal and Kettel's second assist of the season.

At 53:01 Taylor scored her second goal from ten yards out off a perfect cross by sophomore Ashley Devine. The assist was Devine's first of her collegiate career.

The Greyhounds quickly responded with an unassisted goal at 53:15 by Huebner from the right side to make the score 4-2.

Just over two minutes later at 55:43 Ashley Seehase took a pass from Reese and scored from 16 yards out to get the Greyhounds within one tally.

After the flourish of four goals in just over six minutes the Greyhounds' equalizer didn't come till 86:03 when Huebner took a cross from Seehase and scored from the right side. It was Huebner's third goal of the game.

In overtime it was Seehase registering her second goal of the game at 98:27. Seehase received a cross from Jenny Dimitroff and scored from 15 yards out on the left side to give the Greyhounds the victory.

For the Flyers, Summers-Hernandez recorded four shots on goal, including one in overtime.

Indianapolis held a 25-14 edge in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The Greyhounds committed 16 fouls to the Flyers' 14. Lewis sophomore Jessica McNamara recorded the game's only yellow card.

The Greyhounds improved to 5-7-0 (3-4-0 GLVC) while the Flyers fell to 4-8-0 (2-6-0).

Lewis plays at Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday and Southern Indiana on Sunday.
