QUINCY, Ill. – After a scoreless first period the Quincy Lady Hawks scored three in the second to edge the Flyers 3-0 on Friday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road match.
Megan Wingenbach made it 1-0 Quincy at 62:28. The Lady Hawks put another on the board less than four minutes later when Becky Fleming found the back of the net, assisted by Aimee Ubriano and Erin Conroy. Quincy’s Liz Werkmeister scored the final goal of the game at 71:10, assisted by Jess Fritsche.
Junior Amy Foran (Batavia, Ill/Batavia) had a shot on goal. Sophomore Colleen Kelly (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and senior Heather Ywaniw (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) each recorded two on goal.
“I think the biggest thing we saw tonight was how important it is to score first. We had a couple really nice chances in the first half and the start of the second where their keeper made a few nice saves or we put one by the post,” head coach Chris Koenig said. “It was a closer game than the stats showed but they are too good of a team to not finish an opportunity when we get it.”
Lewis is now 5-6 (3-3 GLVC) while Quincy is 8-5 (5-3 GLVC). The Quincy Lady Hawks out-shot Lewis 11-8. The Flyers host Missouri S&T on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
