Quincy, Ill. – Lewis senior midfielder Cory Mastey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) scored in his fourth consecutive game to give the Flyers their sixth straight victory and the 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference road win over Quincy on Friday evening.
Mastey knocked a header past Quincy goalkeeper Kyle Dillman at the 39:41 mark of the first half to give Lewis a lead that they would not relinquish. Junior Kipp Cartwright (Park Forest, Ill./Marian Catholic) recorded the assist on Mastey’s tally. Mastey now leads the Flyers with eight goals this season.
With the victory, Lewis improves to 10-1 on the season and 5-1 in GLVC action, while the Hawks drop to 8-5 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
Lewis sophomore Mardoche Beya (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) added an insurance goal for the Flyers with an unassisted score at the 51:54 mark of the second half. Beya now has four goals on the season.
Lewis senior goaltender Anthony Szymel (Naperville, Ill./North) did not face any shots on goal on the evening to earn his seventh shutout of the season. Szymel has allowed just one goal in the Flyers’ last five games.
Lewis is back in action on Sunday (Oct. 12), as the Flyers host Missouri S&T at Lewis University Soccer Field at 12 p.m.
