#19 Lewis 2, Missouri S&T 1 in PDF Format
Romeoville, Ill. – The #19 Lewis University men’s soccer team, behind a pair of first half goals, withstood a furious second half rally from Missouri S&T as the Flyers held on for the 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Miners and extended their winning streak to seven games at the Lewis University Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, Lewis improves to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in GLVC, while the Miners drop to 6-5-3 on the season and 4-2-3 in conference play.
Lewis sophomore midfielder Jose Ibarra (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) put the Flyers on the board at the 20:43 mark of the first half as he headed in a perfect cross pass from senior midfielder Cory Mastey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew). Mastey has now scored at least one point in Lewis’ last five games.
Senior Craig McIntosh (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) added the insurance tally for the Flyers, drilling a rocket past Miner goaltender Pat McNamee, extending Lewis’ lead to 2-0.
Missouri S&T cut the lead in half at the 60:57 mark of regulation, as freshman Zack Hay posted his second goal of the season, but the Miners could not come closer.
Lewis goalkeeper Anthony Szymel (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) made five saves on the afternoon to earn his 11th win of the season.
Lewis is back in action on Friday, as the Flyers travel to Springfield, Missouri to square off with Drury at 7 p.m.
