Springfield, Mo. – Drury freshman Nicole Williams scored two second half goals, including the game-winner in the 80th minute, as the host Panthers earned the 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis women’s soccer team at Harrison Stadium on Friday night.
With the victory, Drury improves to 8-5-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the GLVC, while the visiting Flyers fall to 5-8-1 on the season and 3-5 in conference action.
Williams opened the scoring in the second half with a breakaway score off Flyers’ goalkeeper Megan George at the 51:31 mark of the contest.
Lewis junior forward Amy Foran knotted the score up at 1-apiece at the 75:36 mark, as she followed up her own shot and blasted a goal past Drury goalkeeper Jessie Sanderson. Foran has now scored in the Flyers’ last two games and has three tallies this season.
Williams answered shortly thereafter, scoring the game-winner converting a deflection of her own shot at the 80:58 mark of regulation.
Sanderson finished the game with two saves, while George stopped three shots in the loss.
Lewis is back in action on Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon, as the Flyers travel to Kansas City to square off with Rockhurst at noon.
