INDIANAPOLIS - The GLVC/GLIAC Crossover was designed to create exciting volleyball, and it succeeded on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for No. 17 Lewis, they were on the short end of a nerve-wracking 3-2 (24-26, 26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 19-17) decision to Wayne State.

Lewis rallied back several times, including winning the third set after tailing 24-20. A 6-0 run to take the set was aided by the serving of senior Lauren Hatter (Avon, Ind,/Avon). Lewis fought off a match-point in set five to get two match points of their own; but Wayne State finished with three straight points to take the match.

The match was tied 50 times, and featured 22 lead changes.

The Flyers had four players hit double-digit kills. Senior Justina Begemann (Odessa, Mo/Missouri State West Plains) finished with a career-high 18 kills and 14 digs. Junior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) racked up 14 kills and 22 digs. Junior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) added 11 kills. Sophomore Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) hit .417 with 12 kills. She also added seven blocks (three solo).

Lewis held advantages in hitting percentage (.228-.214), blocks (12-10) and kills (70-66), but committed 18 service errors to Wayne State's five.

The Flyers' school-record 18-match win streak is over, as Lewis is now 19-4. Wayne State is 11-9.

The Flyers face Michigan Tech at 4:30 CT. Lewis defeated Michigan Tech earlier this year at the Flyer Festival.
