INDIANAPOLIS – After falling twice on Friday, the No. 17 Flyers faced adversity once again when dropping the opening set to Ferris State on Saturday. With an 0-3 performance at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover looming the Flyers responded, taking the next three sets and defeating the Bulldogs 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 31-29).
Lewis had four Flyers finish with double-digit kills. Senior Justina Begemann (Odessa, Mo./Odessa) had another solid match, hitting .370 with 12 kills and adding eight digs. Begemann also added four aces. Freshman Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence) contributed 12 kills, 14 digs and two aces. Sophomore Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) hit .318 with 10 kills and four blocks (one solo). Junior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) had 11 kills and 15 digs. Senior Libero Lauren Hatter (Avon, Ind./Avon) talied 17 kills and four aces.
Ferris State falls to 15-8. The Flyers improve to 20-5, just the fifth 20 plus win season in the last 18 years.
Lewis hosts Upper Iowa on Tuesday.
