ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) recorded a career high with 23 points and senior Jenna Mooberry (Byron, Ill./Byron) tied a career high with 21 in Lewis' convincing 77-66 victory over  non-conference opponent Ferris State on Tuesday evening at Neil Carey Arena.

Despite's Turpel's third straight game with 20 plus points, it wasn't just the Jenny Turpel show. Mooberry's solid offensive night was enhanced with her performance on the defensive end. She shut down Ferris State's Teghan Thelen, who entered the game averaging 31.0 points per game.

"I think Jenna's length really bothered her (Teghan)," head coach Lisa Carlsen said of the 5-10 Mooberry. "Jenna got her hands up and contested every look she took."

Lewis jumped out to a 13-0 lead, thanks in part to quick back-to-back treys by Mooberry. Despite a Bulldogs timeout, the Flyers didn't stop scoring. Lewis took a 22-4 lead with 12:47 left on a layup by Turpel. Ferris State made it a 12-point game with seven minutes left in the first half, but the Flyers finished on a 14-4 run and take a 22-point advantage into halftime. The final run featured a four-point play by senior Mandie Morelock (Poplar Grove, Ill./North Boone).

After a Ferris State basket to start the second half, Mooberry drained her third triple of the game to give the Flyers a 23-point lead. Ferris State made a late run but three straight times they cut the Flyers' lead to single digits redshirt freshman Devon Carbaugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) responded with a basket.

The difference in the game was at the defensive end. Lewis recorded eight blocks and eight steals to force 23 turnovers. Mooberry tied a career high with four blocks. She also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded two assists. Turpel had eight rebounds, three blocks, three assists and two steals in addition to her big offensive night.

"We wanted to get after the basketball and force them to take quick shots," Carlsen said. "We aim to make offenses uncomfortable and I thought we did that tonight."

Carbaugh fended off early foul trouble to score 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Sophomore Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) tallied 11 points.

Jenna Guay led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Ferris State falls to 1-2 while Lewis improves to 3-2.

The Flyers hit the road over the Thanksgiving break for a pair of games in Colorado. Lewis plays Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday at 2 p.m. and Metro State at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
