INDIANAPOLIS - In a game of back and forth scoring runs, Indianapolis put together a push in the final two and half minutes to top Lewis 71-66 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game on Thursday evening.

Early on it looked like the Greyhounds may run over the Flyers as Indianapolis took a 27-15 lead with 7:55 left on a Samantha Meissel layup. But just over three minutes later it was a new game. The Flyers responded with a 14-2 run thanks to six points from Junior Lauren Martens, a 3-pointer by Junior Jenna Mooberry and a layup by senior Jennifer Green. The Greyhounds' Isabell Rhenwick briefly gave Indianapolis the lead back on a jumper, but it would be the last Greyhounds' basket of the half. A Green 3-pointer and a layup by freshman Jenny Turpel gave the Flyers a 34-31 advantage going into halftime.

The Greyhounds used a 14-0 run to turn a five point Lewis lead into a nine point Indianapolis advantage at 49-40 with 10:04 left. Despite the lead teetering on double-digits Lewis rallied back, posting a 14-2 steak thanks in part to two 3-pointers by freshman Kady Currin. But back came the Greyhounds with a 9-0 run, taking a six point lead with 5:38 left on a Jessica Canary trey. The two Lewis captains tied it again as Green and Dianis hit back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to tie it up at 60 with 2:53 remaining. On the next possession, Martens grabbed the board after Deanna Thompson missed a free throw. Trying to push the tempo, her long pass to half court was too strong and went out of bounds. Unfortunately for the Flyers, they wouldn't score again till the final seconds after an 8-0 Indianapolis streak had already put the game away.

Martens was the Flyers' leading scorer with 16. Turpel added 14 points, six rebounds and two assists. Green scored 12 with five assists and three steals. Mooberry was perfect on the night, hitting all three attempts from the floor including two treys to finish with eight points.

Indianapolis also had three players finish in double-digit points. Canary had 18, Rhenwick and Meissel both had 12. Indianapolis had a 37-26 advantage on the boards. The Flyers forced more turnovers (18-15), but the Greyhounds did more with them, finishing with a 22-18 advantage in points off turnovers. Indianapolis shot 5-18 (27.8 percent) from long range while Lewis was 8-26 (30.8 percent).

The Greyhounds improved to 19-5 (11-5 GLVC) while the Flyers fell to 12-11 (8-8 GLVC). Lewis is at Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The game can be heard on the WJOL 1340 AM.
