Junior Jenna Mooberry shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor, including two 3-pointers and two three throws to net 20 points and help lift the Flyers to a dominating 74-44 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon.
Mooberry has gone 80 minutes without missing a shot as she hit all three attempts including two treys at Indianapolis on Thursday evening.
Senior Jennifer Green got the Flyers rolling early. She scored the first points of the game on a 3-pointer. After a Saint Joseph's free throw and a layup by freshman Kady Currin, Green hit another trey to give the Flyers an 8-1 lead and force Saint Joseph's to call a timeout. The timeout did little to slow down the Flyers, as Lewis cruised to an 18-3 start. The Lady Pumas advanced within 12 points with 1:29 remaining but the Flyers turned up the defense in the final minute and half. A steal by sophomore Lauresha Hawkins set up a 3-pointer by freshman Kelly Monaco. Then sophomore Amy Smith stole the ball and raced down court for a layup. She was fouled on the attempt and made the free throw for the three point play. Smith notched another steal on the Lady Pumas' next possession to keep the score at 36-18 going into half. Mooberry was 4-for-4 from the floor, including one 3-pointer, in the first half against the Lady Pumas.
Mooberry connected on four shots and two free throws early in the second half to help push the Flyers lead to 51-24. Monaco was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three free throws to bring the Flyers lead to 29 points at 58-29 with 9:57 remaining. Smith hit two free throws with 1:11 left to give the Flyers their largest lead of 32 points. Saint Joseph's added a late basket to bring the final margin to 30 points.
Smith set career-highs with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Green finished with eight points and three steals. Junior Mandie Morelock scored three points and grabbed three rebounds.
Lewis scored 29 points off 31 Lady Pumas turnovers. The Flyers held a 20-8 advantage in assists. Lewis improved to 13-11 (9-8 GLVC) and Saint Joseph's fell to 1-23 (0-17).
