Lewis opened the 2008 baseball season on Saturday with two losses. The Flyers fell 3-2 to Gannon and 8-2 to Hillsdale.
Senior Jon Guzzo (0-1) was a hard luck loser in game one to Gannon, giving up one earned run and striking out seven in six innings of work. He surrendered two hits, two walks and hit one batter.
Gannon scored the first run of the game in the top of the third. Lewis quickly tied it in the bottom of the inning. Gannon took the lead back with two runs in the third. The Flyers added a run in the sixth but couldn't tie it.
Senior Billy Duffy went 2-for-4. Junior Chris McCall was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Sophomore Ryan McManaman went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, senior Ryan Duran (0-1) went 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs, one earned. The Flyers tied it at two in the top of the fifth with RBIs from senior Bryan Druktenis and McCall. Druktenis finished 2-for-3 with a double.
Hillsdale scored six in the bottom of the fifth, chasing Duran from the game. It was zeros the rest of the way.
The Flyers play a double-header against Stonehill College tomorrow.
