Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

QUINCY, Ill. - Sophomore Ryan McManaman knocked in two and senior Ryan Druktenis homered, but the Quincy Hawks swept a non-conference doubleheader with Lewis on Wednesday afternoon 9-2 and 9-7.

The Hawks scored five in the second inning and three in the third and never looked back in the 9-2 opening game victory.

Joe Palumbo, Justin Dunning and Nathan Warner all homered in the second for Quincy. Senior Jon Crettol gave up eight runs, six earned, in three innings of work. Senior Adam Stabosz came in and pitched two innings, allowing a run in the fifth. Freshman Chris Williams pitched the sixth, allowing only a double. Crettol (0-1) earned the loss.

The Flyers scored both of their runs in the seventh. McManaman hit a sacrifice fly to score Druktenis. Freshman Richard Forkin singled down the left field line to score junior Ryan McCall for the Flyers' second run.

In the second game, all was going well for the Flyers until the fourth inning. Lewis scored in the second when Druktenis led off the inning with his second home run of the year. The Flyers then took a 2-0 lead in the third. Freshman Mike Vucsko doubled to left field and senior Mike Duffy singled to knock Vucsko in.

But in the bottom of the fourth the Hawks scored seven runs. Six of the first seven batters for Quincy reached base in the inning but the big blow came off the bat of Chris Scoggins. His grand slam turned a 3-2 Hawks' lead into a 7-2 Quincy advantage. The homer came off of senior Tim Harmatys who relieved freshman Charles Gille (1-1).

Gille pitched 3.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out two. Junior Chris Brigham pitched a 1-2-3 fifth. Duran allowed two runs in the sixth.

Despite a 9-2 deficit entering the seventh, Lewis mounted a comeback. The Flyers scored five runs and had the bases loaded with two outs and Vucsko at the plate. But unfortunately for the Flyers, the freshman lined out to center to end the game. Smith, McCall, McManaman, Forkin and sophomore Joe Carbone all had an RBI in the inning.

The Flyers fall to 3-4 while Quincy improves to 5-5.

The Flyers' scheduled doubleheader against Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Saturday, March 15 has been moved to Friday, March 14 at 2 p.m. The Flyers and Cougars will first play a nine inning game and then a seven inning contest. The date change is due to Saturday's unfavorable weather forecasts.
