McManaman Helps Flyers To Comeback Victory

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Sophomore Ryan McManaman scored the tying run in the seventh and knocked in the winning run in the eighth to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan in game two of a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The victory came after the Flyers were edged 4-3 in the opening game.

The Flyers scored first in game two with a run in the top of the third. Senior Billy Duffy doubled to knock in senior Mike Smith two singled with two outs. Kentucky Wesleyan scored in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 advantage. In the seventh Smith doubled to score McManaman with two outs. Then in the eight McManaman knocked in junior Chris McCall, who led the inning off with a single.

Freshman Charles Gille (2-3) earned the victory, allowing no runs and only two hits in 3.2 innings of work. Senior Ryan Duran started, allowing two earned runs in 4.1 innings.

Senior Adam Stabosz (1-5), took the loss in game one allowing only two earned runs over 7.1 innings of work. The Flyers took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth before the Panthers pushed across two to take the lead.

Smith had an RBI in the first and third innings to help the Flyers take a 2-0 lead. Kentucky Wesleyan tied it with two in the fifth. Junior Jeffrey Ithal walked to lead off the eighth and scored on a Duffy single to give the Flyers the lead till the bottom of the inning.

The Flyers stand at 10-17 (5-11 GLVC) while Kentucky Wesleyan is now at 14-25 (5-13 GLVC). The Flyers play the Panthers in a doubleheader again tomorrow.
