MIDLAND, Mich. - Sophomore Jessica Summers Hernandez gave the Flyers their first victory of 2008 with an unassisted second half goal to defeat Northwood 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Flyers scored at 54:40 on a successful penalty kick by senior Courtney Kettel. However the lead didn't last long. Just over 10 minutes later Northwood knotted it up on a goal by Heather Rhodes. But at 68:25 Hernandez deflected in a corner kick to give the Flyers the lead for good.

Strong Lewis defense allowed only one Northwood shot the rest of the way to secure the win. Sophomore goaltender Megan George made three saves to record the victory. Lewis held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Flyers host their first game of the year on Tuesday against Northern Michigan at 3 p.m.
