Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis senior forward Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick/St. Xavier) led six players in double-figures with a season-high 26 points and six three-pointers, to help propel the host Flyers to their third-straight win with the 101-82 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over UW-Parkside at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Lewis sophomore guard Dennis Thomas (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) shot 9-for-13 from the floor and knocked down three trifectas to finish with 21 points.
Freshmen post players Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) and Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) shot a combined 11-for-11 from the floor as each finished the contest with 12 points. Senior guard Mike Robinson (Chicago, Ill./Hales Franciscan/Eastern Illinois) finished with 11 points, while knocking down all three of his attempts from beyond the arc.
With the victory, Lewis improves to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in GLVC play, while the Rangers drop to 5-11 on the season and 2-6 in conference action.
For the game, Lewis shot 67.2% (41-for-61) from the floor and 59.1% (13-for-22) from three-point range. The 13 three-pointers was a season-high and the most by a Flyer squad since dropping 16 long range shots in a 104-81 win over Missouri-Rolla on January 7, 2006. The 67.21% shooting performance was the best outing by a Lewis squad since January 9, 2006 when the Flyers knocked down 67.24% (39-for-58) of their attempts in a 105-64 win over Lincoln Christian.
"Offensively we played well against their zone," Lewis University head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I'm pleased with our performance and it was good to see six guys score in double-figures along with 22 assists and only 11 turnovers. We did a good job of sharing the ball, making the extra pass and finding the open man."
Genova shot 10-for-14 from the floor and knocked down 6-for-8 of his three-point attempts. He also was solid on the defensive end as he held UW-Parkside's LaVontay Fenderson in check for much of the game, finishing with 15 points, much of which was scored when the game was well in hand. Fenderson entered Saturday's contest as the second-leading scorer in the country.
"Jason did a great job on (Fenderson) and made it difficult for him and he deserves a lot of credit," Trost said. "We made it really difficult for him to get shots."
UW-Parkside senior guard Dave Keane posted a team-best 23 points, including five three-pointers in the loss, while teammates DaMarcus Bell and D.J. Dantzler added 20 and 18 points respectively.
Lewis is back in action on Thursday (Jan. 22) night as they travel to Indiana to square off with St. Joseph's for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off.
