SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Flyers built a six-point halftime lead over defending conference champion Drury, but in the second half the Panthers pulled away for a 78-63 victory.

A jumper by senior Mandie Morelock (Poplar Grove, Ill./North Boone) gave the Flyers their biggest lead of the game at 31-18 with 6:32 remaining in the first half. Morelock added seven points, all in the first half.

The Flyers led by five at 50-45 with just under 14 minutes remaining but Drury went on a 19-4 run to take control of the game.

The Flyers shot a blistering 65 percent (17-of-26) in the first half. In the second Drury connected on 68 percent (15-of-22) while Lewis hit only 24 percent of their shots (8-of-33). Drury finished the game at 54 percent (27-of-50), while Lewis shot 25-of-59 (42 percent).

"We came out ready to play and had great defensive intensity," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "But in the second they got on a run and we weren't able to bounce back."

The Flyers were only able to get to the line nine times while Drury shot 19 free throws.

"We were in the bonus early and I thought at times we took some quick ill advised shots instead of trying to get to the foul line," Carlsen said. "It was a physical game and we didn't take advantage of that."

Sophomore Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) recorded her 11th straight game of double-digit points by scoring 23 points and grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds.

"Turpel was aggressive all game," Carlsen said. "In both games this weekend she did a good job of not turning the ball over and dealing with the double teams."

Freshman Devon Carbaugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) had 10 rebounds and eight points. Sophomore Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) hit 4-of-8 from long range to score 14 points.

Melanie Oliver added 14 points and eight rebounds for Panthers. Drury improves to 9-4 and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis is 6-7 and 2-2 in the GLVC.

The Flyers return home to host Missouri S&T on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
