ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The No. 13 Lewis women's volleyball extended their home win streak to 33 matches with a 3-2 (25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-6) victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena.
The Tritons led the third set 17-13 when the Flyers came alive with a 9-2 run. The streak put Lewis up 22-19. However back came the Tritons, scoring the next four points to take a 23-22 lead. Junior setter Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) then recorded one of her eight kills by finding the left far corner. Following a Tritons' attack error, Lewis won the set on a block by seniors Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) and Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale).
UMSL won the fourth set to force a fifth and final frame.
The fifth set was all Lewis. Ruedi had 13 assists and seven digs while deBuhr recorded four kills in the set.
"It's nice to have a team that in a fifth set can step it up," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "Missouri-St. Louis' offense and defense was stellar tonight. This was a great win."
Sagat led Lewis with 17 kills and 15 digs. deBuhr added 15 kills and four block assists. Junior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) finished with 12 kills and 21 digs. Ruedi recorded 49 assists, 22 digs, eight kills and three blocks (one solo). Redshirt senior Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) recorded 19 digs.
"Ashlee was solid the entire game but in the fifth set she was even better," Smith said.
Missouri St. Louis falls to 12-7 (3-2 GLVC). Lewis is now 15-3 (5-0 GLVC). Lewis hosts Missouri S&T on Saturday at 4 p.m. on Hall of Fame Day.
