ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - There are Senior Days and there are Senior Days that will never be forgotten. Sunday's women's soccer contest between Lewis and Rockhurst was one Lewis supports will remember. Thanks to a pair of seniors, the Flyers rallied back from a late deficit to defeat Rockhurst 2-1 in double-overtime.

Rockhurst got on the board 27 minutes into the game when Amy Lindley found space in the middle and delivered a perfect strike into the corner of the goal.

The Flyers controlled the vast majority of the second half, out-shooting the Hawks 13-7 in the second and 19-9 in the final three periods. Finally it was senior Ashley Devine (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) knotting up the game at 82:11 on an unassisted goal. Devine chased a ball to the endline and after gaining possession faced what appeared to be an impossible shooting angle from the far left side of the goal. Devine somehow found the space and fired the ball into the upper right portion of the goal. It was Devine's first tally of the year.

"We had chance after chance in the second half and it felt like we were going down the same road," head coach Chris Koenig said. "But Ashley came through with a great goal and I couldn't be happier for her."

Lewis had the majority of quality chances in the overtime sessions but waited till just over a minute remained to win it.

Senior Amy Foran (Batavia, Ill/Batavia) took a throw in from sophomore Jordyn McMahon (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) on the right side of the box. She made space for herself and buried the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Lewis finished with a 25-15 edge in shots. Junior Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) totaled nine saves for the Flyers.

"I'm proud of this team and very happy to see them get the result they deserved," Koenig said. "It was a great way to finish things up. Hopefully it sets up a nice offseason."

Rockhurst falls to 7-9-1 and 6-7-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Lewis ends the season 5-9-2 and 4-8-1 in the GLVC. The Flyers finished the season winning three of their final four contests.
