KENOSHA, Wis. - Junior Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) recorded her first career triple-double in No. 12 Lewis' 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 13-25, 18-16) victory at UW-Parkside on Tuesday evening.
Ruedi finished with 53 assists, 18 digs and 10 kills. Senior libero Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) had a match-best 25 digs. Senior Kim Richards (Evergreen Park, Ill./Mother McAuley) finished with 10 kills and six blocks (two solos). Senior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) led Lewis with 14 kills
A five-point streak with the score tied at 11 gave the Rangers all the separation they would need for an opening set win.
The Flyers led the second set 16-9 only to see the Rangers rally to knot it at 18. Lewis responded with a 5-0 run to help even the match at one.
Much like the second set, Lewis held a significant 15-9 edge in the third set only to see the Rangers rattle off nine of the next 10 points and take a lead at 19-17. The Flyers then closed the set on an 8-1 run to take the frame.
The Rangers dominated the fourth to force a fifth set.
Lewis led the fifth 4-1 before UW-Parkside came back to knot it at eight. The Rangers took only their second lead of the set when they grabbed a 15-14 edge. Facing match point senior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) responded with a kill to knot the match at 15. It was tied at 16 when a Richards kill gave Lewis their second match-point. Richards then teamed with Ruedi for a block to clinch the win.
Head coach Lorelee Smith is now 13-5 all-time in five set matches.
The loss drops the Rangers to 20-10 (4-7 Great Lakes Valley Conference). The win improves Lewis to 25-3 (11-0 GLVC). The Flyers are at Maryville on Saturday.
