ST. LOUIS - Junior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) recorded a match-high nine kills with five digs to lead No. 12 Lewis to a sweep (25-17, 25-18, 25-22) of Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Maryville on Saturday evening.
Many of the Lewis starters played just one set, including junior setter Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour). She followed up her triple-double on Tuesday with 10 assists and three kills in a single set of action. Senior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) swung 10 times and recorded seven kills, all in the second set.
Senior Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) had four digs. She recorded her 1,000th career dig on Tuesday. Her career total now stands at 1,024.
The second set was tied at 11 until a 9-1 Lewis run gave the Flyers separation. Lewis led the third set by just an 18-17 margin when a 4-1 stretch helped Lewis pull away.
"Maryville had a great environment to play in and played us close," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "I'm happy to leave with the win."
Maryville falls to 4-21 and 1-11 in the GLVC.
Lewis improves to 26-3 and 12-0 in the GLVC. The Flyers host Drury on Friday at 7 p.m. A win clinches the regular season GLVC championship and the right to host the GLVC Tournament for the second straight season. For fans who cannot make it out to Neil Carey Arena for the crucial match, it will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.
