Women's Soccer: #15 Indianapolis 1, Lewis 0 in PDF Format
Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University head women's soccer coach Chris Koenig knows his team is on the verge, but just can't quite get over the hump, as the host Flyers dropped a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference decision to No. 15 Indianapolis, their fifth-straight, one-goal loss, at Lewis Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
"Each of the last five games has been an improvement over the previous game in terms of our play," Koenig said. "If you have this many one-goal games, there's not a huge discrepancy between you and your opponent. Everybody is probably as frustrated as they can be, but to the kids' credit, I haven't seen them stop.
"You have to hope at some point you're going to get a break or be on the end of a ball and then it starts rolling for you."
With the victory, Indianapolis improves to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in GLVC action, while the Flyers drop to 2-8-2 on the season and 1-7-1 in conference play.
UIndy posted the game-winning goal in the 16th minute, as senior forward Ashley Seehase converted a cross pass in front of the net past Lewis goalkeeper Megan George. UIndy's Shelby Spinelli and Taryn Zimmerman assisted on the play.
"Right now I think we're as good as any team that we've played from the top of the 18 to the other end of the 18," Koenig said. "Unfortunately games are usually won inside of the 18's and UIndy got on the end of a good service.
"It's the same story," Koenig continued. "We just have find somebody that will step up and be hungry to get on a ball that's inside the box."
George had five saves on the afternoon, while her counterpart Shae Morris had five stops for the Greyhound shutout.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Oct. 9), as they travel to Indiana to square off with Saint Joseph's for a 7:30 p.m. start.
