Men's Basketball: Lewis 83, Upper Iowa 76 in PDF Format
Marshall, Minn. - Lewis junior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) posted a career-high 31 points, including an impressive 17-for-19 performance at the free throw line, to help the Flyers to the 83-76 in second day action of the SMSU Classic, presented by State Farm Insurance, at the R/A Facility on Saturday (Nov. 21) afternoon.
"I thought DT played well today," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "He got to the line, took advantage of his quickness and that was good to see."
Thomas was one of four Flyer players to score in double-figures on Saturday. Sophomores Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) and Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) each scored 12 points for the Flyers, while forward Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) chipped in 10.
"I'm pretty happy to come back and get a win after such an emotional lost last night (to Southwest Minnesota State)," Trost said. "Getting an in-region win on the road is always nice."
With the victory, Lewis improves to 2-1 on the season, while the Peacocks drop to 0-3 on the campaign.
The Flyers went to the line 35 times on Saturday and knocked down 82.9% (29-for-35) of their attempts. Lewis was equally as efficient from the field, shooting 54.5% (24-for-44) from the field and 50.0% (6-for-12) from long range.
Brad Burgus led Upper Iowa with 13 points, followed by 12 points from Jake Hughes and 10 points from Keith Steffeck.
Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 24) evening, as they welcome Hillsdale to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
