The Flyers were down 24-20 with 5:37 left in the first half, but responded with a 18-6 run to close the half.
After shooting 38.9 percent in the first, Lewis extended their 38-30 halftime lead by shooting 47.1 percent in the second. The Flyers scored 30 points off 27 Blackburn turnovers.
Murdock grabbed eight boards in addition to her 21 points. Sophomore Devon Carbaugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) led Lewis with 10 rebounds. Junior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) scored 15 points in just 19 minutes. Senior Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Kariann Hill led Blackburn with 12 points. Lewis limited Blackburn to just 28.6 percent (16-of-56) shooting from the floor.
"We talked a lot about keeping our defensive intensity consistent," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "I was happy with it at times and if we can continue to get better each time we play we'll get where I want us to be."
Lewis and Blackburn are each 1-3. The Flyers open conference play on Thursday with a home contest against Missouri-St. Louis at 5:30 p.m.
"We get the opportunity to start 0-0," Carlsen said. "For a team like us struggling a bit that can be uplifting, but we have to come ready to play against UMSL."
The game will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.
A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields.
