ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) recorded her 1,000th career kill in No. 11 Lewis' 25-14, 26-24, 25-23 sweep of Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena. The win gives Lewis a perfect 14-0 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this year.

It's the third time in Lewis history the Flyers have finished the regular season with a perfect GLVC record. The 1988 and 1989 squads went 8-0 and 11-0 in the GLVC, respectively. Since 2000 only the 2001 Northern Kentucky Norse and 2006 Southern Illinois Edwardsville Cougars have also gone undefeated in the GLVC.

The Flyers dominated the opening set, out-hitting the Hawks .371 to .000. It was merely the calm before a wild second set. Rockhurst led it 14-10 before the Flyers went on a 10-1 run. The Hawks responded with a 6-0 stretch to take the lead back at 21-20. Lewis then scored four straight to earn set point at 24-21. Back came Rockhurst, knotting it at 24. With the set at stake senior Kim Richards (Evergreen Park, Ill./Mother McAuley) and junior Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) delivered back-to-back kills to end it.

The Flyers jumped out to a quick 11-7 advantage in set three. Rockhurst chipped at the lead and eventually tied it at 17. However Lewis never let the Hawks take the lead as deBuhr made her 1,000th kill count by giving Lewis the lead back at 18-17. The Flyers controlled the set down the stretch and it was deBuhr on the kill for the 25th point.

"When Sara wants to she can step it up another notch and be that player that is basically unstoppable," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "1000 kills is very difficult and it's shows how strong of an offensive weapon she is."

Junior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) totaled 11 kills and 12 digs. Ruedi totaled 38 assists, seven digs and five kills. Senior Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) finished with 18 digs.

"For all the responsibilities Ashlee has, I think she is the best libero in the conference," Smith said.

The Flyers out-hit the Hawks .256 to .097 for the match. Lewis is now 28-3 overall. The Flyers have won 25 straight matches. Rockhurst finishes the regular season 20-13 and 9-5 in the GLVC.

Lewis hosts Saint Joseph's on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the GLVC Quarterfinals.
