ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Jenna Mooberry (Byron, Ill./Byron) tallied 17 points and 11 boards with three assists to help the Lewis University women's basketball team grab sole possession of third place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division with a 71-53 victory over Indianapolis on Thursday evening.

"I loved Jenna's aggressiveness on both ends of the court," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "She was assertive tonight, especially going to the basket."

The Flyers led by just two at the break and then Indianapolis opened the second with back-to-back treys to grab a 34-40 lead. A jumper by sophomore Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill. /Johnsburg) and a trey by sophomore Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) gave Lewis a lead the lead back.

The Flyers took control with 14:16 remaining in the second. Lewis was up by just four when the Greyhounds' Heather Rourk stepped on the end line trying to inbound the ball. Seconds later Turpel was fouled while sinking on a layup. She made the free throw to give Lewis a 48-41 lead. Turpel's three-point play started a 15-6 run that left zero chance for a Greyhounds' rally.

The Flyers controlled the game, by controlling the boards. Lewis held a dominating 43-32 rebounding edge, and a 12-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

"Our post players are going to be tired tomorrow because they had to work hard to get space," Carlsen said. "But we really stood our ground against a physical team."

The Flyers started the game a bit sloppy, turning it over six times in the first eight minutes. But for the rest of the game Lewis turned it over only five times.

Monaco finished with 17 points, making a career-high five treys for the second straight game.

"Right now I feel like when Kelly has a look on the perimeter it's going to go in," Carlsen said.

Turpel added a team-high 18 points, five boards and two steals. Junior Amy Smith (Southgate, Mich./Anderson) notched six boards and four points in just 14 minutes off the bench.

Indianapolis falls to 19-7 (8-6 GLVC). Lewis improves to 12-10 (8-5 GLVC). The Flyers host Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 1 p.m.
