ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Drew Pickering (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) and freshman Gustavo Cintron (Delray Beach, Fla./Spanish River) each notched 10 kills in two sets of action to help the Flyers sweep Grand Canyon 30-22, 30-22, 30-18 in a non-conference match on Saturday evening at Neil Carey Arena.

Pickering hit .375 with two digs and two block assists. His 10 kills come on the heels of his 19 kill performance last night.

"Drew had another impressive night," head coach Dan Friend said. "He was consistent and steady."

Cintron swung 10 times and recorded a kill each time to tally a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.

"Gustavo put up some impressive numbers and looked good doing it," Friend said. "He is starting to turn the corner."

Five kills by senior David Kelnhofer (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and a 5-0 run helped Lewis win the opening set 30-22. Lewis used a 7-1 run and eight Cintron kills to win the second by the same score. The Flyers started the final set with a 5-1 streak and never looked back.

Junior Rikki Garma (Lihue, Hawaii/Ost) added 13 digs. Junior Craig Boller (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) had three kills, two aces and six block assists. The Flyers had 10 aces to only eight service errors. Freshman Aaron Flick (Strongville, Ohio/St. Edward) had three and sophomore Brian Schmidt (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) added two.

Lewis out-hit the Antelopes .365-.106. Mikel Meador led Grand Canyon with 11 kills.

Grand Canyon falls to 1-9 while Lewis improves to 5-2. The Flyers play at Carthage on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Lewis returns home on Friday, when No. 8 UCLA pays their first ever visit to Neil Carey Arena. First serve is at 7 p.m.
