Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University sophomore pitcher Diana Pickrum (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) remained undefeated on the season, as the Oak Forest, Illinois native tossed a complete-game, two-hitter as the host Flyers claimed the 5-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Saint Joseph's in Game Two of Sunday's doubleheader at Lewis Softball Field.

In the opener, Saint Joseph's scored two runs in the top of the first and never looked back as the Pumas claimed the 2-0 win over Lewis starting pitcher Courtney Lyons (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro) and the Flyers.

With the split, Lewis moves to 21-10 overall and 5-3 in GLVC action, while the Pumas are now 11-9 on the campaign and 4-2 in conference play.

"This was a big win," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said of the game two victory. "This was a must-win game for us because we certainly did not want to lose three of four games at home this weekend."

Pickrum, who improved to 6-0 on the campaign, threw four perfect innings before surrendering a leadoff single to Puma catcher Brittnie Boerma in the fifth inning. She struck out five batters on the afternoon.

"Pickrum pitched great," DiMatteo said. "She was throwing strikes all day long and kept (Saint Joseph's) best hitters off-balance with her change-up."

She was also the beneficiary of the long ball on Sunday, as sophomores Stephanie Trapp (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and Stephanie Harmon (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) each cleared the fence for the Flyers. Trapp led off the second inning with her second homer of the season, while Harmon poked her third homer in as many days with a two-run blast in the third inning. Senior Brittany Patete (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) added a pair of hits for the Flyers in the victory.

Saint Joseph's pitcher Sara Somogyi was tagged with the complete-game loss for the Pumas, surrendering five runs and seven hits, while fanning six batters.

Lyons was the tough-luck loser for the Flyers in the opener, as she allowed just one hit over the final six innings of the contest after giving up two runs and three hits in the first frame.

Somogyi (9-3) was dominant in the circle for the Pumas in the opener, as she earned the complete-game, three-hit shutout while striking out seven batters.

The Flyers return to action on Thursday afternoon, as they head to Joliet to square off with St. Francis (IL) for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
